The Beko BFBD30216SSIM bottom-freezer refrigerator has a brushed stainless-steel facade with a robust handle along each of its doors and a tiny embossed "Beko" along its top center.

Opening the fridge reveals a standard fridge compartment with three spill-capture shelves above twin crispers and a full-width deli drawer. The refrigerator door has two columns of smaller bins above one that's full-width.

Inside the freezer compartment, you'll see a small main bin with a pull-out shelf above it. The ice reservoir is located on the left side of that drawer.

What we like

Its fridge and freezer temperatures are remarkably consistent

Temperatures in both the fridge and freezer were remarkably consistent.

A good fridge needs to keep temperatures cool and consistent, which can be a delicate balancing act.

The Beko BFBD30216SSIM fortunately keeps both its fridge and freezer compartments exactly where they need to be.

The fridge barely wobbles from a nearly ideal 36.89°F. That means it'll keep your food cold without freezing it or allowing it to get so warm that it spoils faster.

The freezer needs to be calibrated down a few degrees—it averages 3.73°F on recommended settings—but once its temperature is set you'll barely see any movement there.

Steady temperatures are especially important in the freezer as too much fluctuation is what causes freezer burn.

Its crispers hold in humidity—and carry more tech than you'd expect!

These crispers feature two new branded technologies, Everfresh+ and HarvestFresh, both of which are designed to maximize the shelf life of your fresh fruits and vegetables.

Everyone knows that a fridge's crispers are where you store fruits and vegetables, but even if you're a hardcore vegan and these items make up the majority of your diet, you may never have given much thought to how your fridge's crispers actually perform and whether they're keeping your produce as fresh as possible. However, a good crisper can keep your leafy greens fresher for a significantly longer time period than a less well-designed drawer.

Over the last few years, Beko fridges have had some interesting innovations in when it comes to crisper technology, and the Beko BFBD30216SSIM continues on this trend. Its HarvestFresh crispers, which leverage blue light to prolong leafy greens, are brand new and our chief scientist, David Ellerby, PhD, examined the science behind the feature.

"Analyses carried out for this Beko refrigerator show that the HarvestFresh lights maintain vitamin levels in stored produce. This is supported by independent research showing that LED lighting preserves salad leaves and tomatoes."

Ellerby points out that the implementation in the fridge isn't quite what the study tested, but it should still be somewhat effective.

"Although the light levels used in the research were higher than we measured in the fridge, HarvestFresh can still preserve your produce," says Ellerby, "Even if the effect is small, the colored lights at least look cool."

These crispers also feature Beko's Everfresh+ technology, which couples temperature management and precise humidity control. This definitely bore out in testing: The crispers let humidity escape at the incredibly low rate of 0.5 grams per hour. That's twice the humidity retention of most fridges we'd consider to be top performers.

Even though the features may not work as well as in the scientific research, they should still work. If you really rely on fresh produce, this Beko refrigerator is one of the better options available at this price point.

Its full-width deli drawer helps keep things organized

The Beko bottom-freezer refrigerator might not have comparable storage space to similar models, but we do like the storage options it offers.

The interior shelves and bins can all be repositioned according to your needs, and the full-width deli drawer under the crispers provides a safe area for larger platters.

Its unique dimensions may be perfect for your kitchen

Lots of Beko fridges seem to have unique dimensions, and the Beko BFBD30216SSIM follows in that tradition.

This Beko model is a standard-depth fridge, not a counter-depth, which reflects its depth from the back to front of the refrigerator. However, it is both narrower and less deep than most standard fridges. Counter-depth fridges are typically 24 inches deep, while standard-depth fridges can be 30 inches deep or more. Because most fridges tend to be cluster around these two measurements, finding fridges that measure in between is difficult.

The BFBD30216SSIM finds itself between the two, at about 28 inches deep. It's also just 30 inches wide, which is is equally rare: Most fridges, both counter-depth and standard-depth, tend to be about 32 inches wide.

This means the BFBD30216SSIM can fit into a space that is 30 inches wide and 28 inches deep, which is a space over two inches slimmer and four inches shallower than what most other bottom-freezer fridges can manage.

What we don’t like

It has low overall storage

If you love ice, you likely won't mind the large reservoir in the freezer, but otherwise you may find yourself short on space for frozen foods.

As we mentioned above, the Beko BFBD30216SSIM has unique dimensions that make it slightly smaller than a full-size fridge. While this can help it squeeze into smaller spaces, it also means lower overall storage. The full-width deli drawer also contributes to this problem, as drawers—while great for keeping things compartmentalized—aren't as space efficient as a plain old shelf.

Bottom-freezer fridges, in general, are smaller than top-freezer models or French-door refrigerators, and this Beko is even smaller than the average bottom-freezer.

The average bottom-freezer fridge has 9.9 cubic feet of storage in the fridge and 3.7 cubic feet of storage in the freezer. This Beko fridge has a 7.61-cubic-foot fridge and a 2.9-cubic-foot freezer. That means you're getting 23% less storage in the fridge and 20% less storage in the freezer.

If you live alone and this fridge's smaller size is one of the key features you're looking for, you probably won't mind the reduced storage space. If you're buying a new fridge for a larger family, then a fridge like the Hotpoint HPS16BTNRWW is one of the best values on total storage per dollar spent.

What owners are saying about the Beko BFBD30216SSIM

The Beko BFBD30216SSIM is relatively new to market and isn't available from a particularly wide number of retailers. We'll come back to update this section in a few months once more user reviews are available.

Warranty

Beko's refrigerator warranty covers the BFBD30216SSIM for two years of parts and labor. Parts for the compressor, evaporator, condenser and filter have extended coverage that lasts up to five years.

The industry standard for warranties is a single year, so we love that Beko went above and beyond here. It helps make the brand's refrigerators feel like more of an investment than they would otherwise.

Should you buy the Beko BFBD30216SSIM bottom-freezer refrigerator?

Yes, if fresh produce is your top priority and you don't need a large fridge

This fridge has consistent temperatures in both the fridge and the freezer, so you'll be getting the longest shelf life out of your perishables. The crispers are also excellent, with new tech that can keep your fruits and veggies from wilting.

As with any fridge that has odd dimensions, it's up to the individual whether the unique size of the fridge is a boon or a burden. For those with smaller kitchens, or those looking for a spare fridge for their garage or basement, the Beko BFBD30216SSIM might slot in perfectly. For others, it might seem expensive and offer much less storage than competing models.

If you're interested in this fridge but think it's a little out of your price range, Beko also makes the incredible BFTF2716SSIM, which is a much better budget buy.

If you'd prefer to spend roughly this much money but are looking for something a little larger, you can get the Frigidaire Gallery Quattro GRQC2255BF, which is the best fridge we've tested to date. It's just a couple hundred dollars more, has a lot more storage, and better features—though its crispers may seem mundane by comparison.
