Best Overall
Monkey Bars 3 Bike Storage Rack

The best bike rack we found is the Monkey Bars Bike Storage Rack. The 3-bike capacity rack is also available in 4- and 6-bike options. With unrivaled quality, weight capacity, and ease of use, it’s easily the best bike storage rack you can buy.

For starters, it’s rock solid. Made from powder-coated, industrial-strength steel, this rack can handle a surprising amount of abuse from daily usage. Installation took roughly 20 minutes, while assembly only consisted of sliding the three hooks into position. The bar’s design and high-quality materials allow each individual hook to hold up to 75 pounds, or 225 pounds on the entire bar, making it the strongest bike storage system we tested.

We find this model simple and easy to use, with the sliding function of the hooks adding customization that other products lacked. This rack requires the user to hoist the bike to its resting place, which isn't always ideal after a long exercise, but that’s to be expected of any hook-based rack.

The unique design, top-grade materials, ease of assembly, and overall value makes the Monkey Bars Bike Storage Rack the clear choice for best garage bike rack. If you’re looking for a mount that can handle some serious weight, look no further.

Pros

  • Holds 3 bikes

  • Sturdy

  • 225-lb capacity

Cons

  • None that we could find

Best Value
Dirza Wall Mount Bike Hanger

While there are many affordable options for garage bike storage, the Dirza Bike Hook is simply the most effective of its price range. Its pre-assembled design offers a sturdy metal frame and a metal hook encased in rubber. Installation is quick and easy; simply mount the hook on a wall stud.

The lightweight hook holds up to 65 pounds, adequate for most bike types, even mountain bikes or beach cruisers. During daily usage, the hook holds up to constant tugging and pulling when removing and hanging the bike, and never falters in holding the weight of a bike.

The only issue we find with this rack is that the included installation screws aren't quite as substantial as the storage hook itself. For a rock-solid installation, you may want to provide your own hardware.

All in all, the Dirza Bike Hook is a highly effective bike mount with surprising weight capacity, especially for the price point. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but if you want an affordable way to organize and store your bicycles, there’s simply no better value.

Pros

  • 65-lb capacity

  • Sturdy

  • Preassembled

Cons

  • Single hook

  • Small screws

Product image of Delta Cycle Michelangelo Two Bike Gravity Storage Rack
Delta Cycle Michelangelo Two Bike Gravity Storage Rack

The Delta Cycle Michelangelo Two Bike Gravity Stand (that’s a mouthful, isn’t it?) offers a less permanent option for bike storage: It just requires a small wall attachment at the top. At nearly seven feet tall, with a weight capacity of 80 pounds, it’s the biggest stand we tested, and one of the strongest.

Assembly for the Gravity Stand takes a bit longer than the others (about 30 minutes) but isn't complicated. With clear directions and good parts, the bike rack will be ready to use immediately after assembly and installation.

This bike stand holds bikes at a horizontal angle rather than vertical, which is very helpful for hanging the bike up after a long ride. During use, this never falters under the stress of a bike

In many ways, the Gravity Stand is the best of both worlds, a non-invasive, floor-based stand that still gets your bikes up off the ground. It may seem a bit oversized and complicated to assemble at first, but it’s a well-designed, reliable option.

Pros

  • Holds 2 bikes

  • 80-lb capacity

  • Sturdy

Cons

  • Takes a while to set up

Product image of TidyGarage Hanging Bicycle Rack
TidyGarage Hanging Bicycle Rack

The TidyGarage Hanging Bicycle Rack is constructed from powder-coated steel and can hold four bikes at once on movable hooks. The hooks must be screwed into the desired spot and reinforced, making it less convenient than the sliding hook mechanism on the Monkey Bars rack. Still, the versatility and additional space saving are not to be understated.

Assembly and installation takes the same amount of time as our top overall pick (roughly 20 minutes) and it never falters during use. Although TidyGarage doesn’t specify the weight capacity of each hook, it stands up well, despite not feeling quite as sturdy as our top overall pick.

Like other vertical hook-based storage systems we found, there’s the additional annoyance of having to hoist the bike into position after using it, but this is a common inconvenience. While it doesn’t feel as sturdy, it’s also generally more affordable than our top pick.

All in all, the TidyGarage Hanging Bicycle Rack is a versatile hook bike storage system that is well built and affordable. Although this 4-bike capacity rack fell short of “best overall,” it’s definitely worth considering for organizing your garage.

Pros

  • Holds 4 bikes

  • Affordable

  • Versatile

Cons

  • Somewhat complicated setup

Product image of Ibera Adjustable Bicycle Wall Hanger
Ibera Adjustable Bicycle Wall Hanger

The Ibera Horizontal Bike Wall Hanger uses two padded arms to hold a bike up to 39 pounds in a horizontal position. While that may not make much of a difference to the bike, it’s certainly helpful for the rider. After a long bike ride, you don’t usually feel like hoisting your bike up to a vertical hook. The horizontal orientation is also much more aesthetically pleasing on your garage wall, for those who want to clean up their space and make it look good in the process.

The build quality is sturdy, requiring minimum pieces and installation. The most important installation quirk is that because of the way it holds the weight of a bike, it can really only work on the strongest walls and materials.

This drawback, plus its relatively limited weight capacity, held it back from the top. But the Ibera Horizontal Bike Wall Hanger is still an excellent bike mount that’s simple to install, easy to use, and stylish.

Pros

  • Simple

  • Sturdy

Cons

  • Made for stronger walls

  • Horizontal orientation

  • 39-lb capacity

Product image of Gladiator Claw Ceiling Mount Bike Hook
Gladiator Claw Ceiling Mount Bike Hook

The Gladiator GarageWorks Claw is unique among the mounts we found. This vertical mount that’s designed to attach to the ceiling of your garage, freeing up wall space. The claw is remarkably simple in design, requiring only a few screws for secure attachment and no assembly out of the box.

The Gladiator is well-designed for ease, offering a large push button to lock and release the claw with the tire of your bike. However, because it attaches to the ceiling, storing bikes on the Gladiator is difficult, especially heavy bicycles. Because of this, some may find the Gladiator preferable for long-term storage, rather than for day-to-day use.

Regardless, the Gladiator offers a smart and lightweight design, simple installation, and a weight capacity of 50 pounds, making it one of the best bike storage systems money can buy.

Pros

  • 50-lb capacity

  • Simple

Cons

  • Difficult to use

Product image of Proslat Vertical Bike Hook
Proslat Vertical Bike Hook

The Proslat 13028 Vertical Bike Hook is made of heavy-duty steel and includes two rubber-coated hooks. Each hook is rated to hold up to 75 pounds, making it one of the strongest bike storage hooks we found.

However, there’s a major limitation: This rack is specifically engineered to work with Proslat Slatwall panels, which are sold separately and necessary for using the hooks properly.

If you don’t already use Proslat Slatwall in your garage, you may want to look into another bike storage option. If you do use Slatwall, the Proslat 13028 Vertical Bike Hook is a sturdy storage solution and an incredible value.

Pros

  • 75-lb capacity

  • Comes with two hooks

Cons

  • Designed for use on Proslat Slatwall only

Product image of StoreYourBoard Bike Storage Rack
StoreYourBoard Bike Storage Rack

If you're looking for a bike rack to organize adult and kids bikes, then this rack will do the job. It has almost 3,000 reviews from buyers saying how much they love this bike for how easy it is to install (hardware is included) and its sturdiness. It also has a secure lock system and is made of durable industrial grade steel.

This rack is built to hold up to five bikes and 300 pounds with an adjustable size space feature and 45 mounting slots. Reviewers claim though, that if you own a large mountain bike or fat bike, they may not fit on this rack. Overall, we still think this is an excellent rack for a basic collection of bikes.

Pros

  • Easy to install

  • Sturdy

  • Secure locking system

Cons

  • May not fit larger bikes

Product image of Flow Wall Vertical Bike Hook
Flow Wall Vertical Bike Hook

The Flow Wall Vertical Bike Hook is simple and sturdy, similar to the Dirza and the Proslat hooks. The Flow Wall is built out of powder-coated steel, with rubber coating on the hook and base to prevent slipping or bike damage.

The hook will hold up to 35 pounds, making it one of the weaker bike racks we tried, but still strong enough to hold the average day-to-day road bike. It is as simple to use as the other single hook units and never has issues with heavy loads.

Similar to the Proslat, the Flow Wall bike hook is built to be compatible with the company’s proprietary Flow Wall panels. If you’re already using Flow Wall panels in your garage, this well-built bike storage unit may be exactly what you’re looking for. If you’re not, the Dirza hook holds more weight for around half the price.

Pros

  • Rubber coated hook

  • Compatible with Flow Wall Panels

Cons

  • Single hook

  • 35-lb capacity

What You Should Know About Bike Racks

A bike rack can be a simple and effective way to revamp your garage space (or living room, in an apartment) and get your cycling gear organized. But to get the most out of yours, you’ll need to find one that suits your needs.

We’ve covered a wide range of bike racks, primarily wall and ceiling mounted bike racks, as well as some that rest on the floor. Each of these serves a unique purpose and can be highly effective in the right situation, or highly frustrating in the wrong situation.

Consider your situation to determine the best fit. If you need to store multiple bikes, you can either choose a multi-bike rack or simply buy several single-bike hooks. Obviously, multiple single hooks offer the most customization, but require the most assembly and installation.

Whatever you choose, it’s critical to read the installation instructions. Almost all of the racks we reviewed needed to hang from a wall stud, while some required installation on the heaviest, load-bearing section of the garage. Taking your time and installing correctly can save time, money, and headaches down the road.

If you prefer a less invasive option, floor stands can offer organization without a permanent installation. These stands are easier to load your bike into as well, since they aren’t as elevated as wall-mounted racks.

The biggest downside to a floor rack is that they don’t clear up as much floor space as the mounted racks. They won’t keep your bike off the ground, but if you’re just looking for an easy-to-use organizational tool, a floor-based bike rack may be for you.
