Nothing says summer like cooking on a hot grill in the great outdoors. On most weekends, you’ll find me flipping burgers and brats on the grill (probably with a cool beverage in my hand). It’s all fun and games until I find myself without a good set of tongs. A top-performing set makes for a joyful grilling experience while a flimsy or tightly spring-loaded pair, turns the experience into a frustrating chore.

Yes, a good set of tongs really feels like an extension of your arm. When buying grill tongs, consider how easily you’ll move, whether you’re rotating tiny skewers or turning a large roast on high heat.

To help you achieve this nirvana-like grilling bliss, we put eight 16-inch tongs for grills to the test to find the best of the best. After doing a ton of research, we found a few that we’ll happily add to our collection of grilling tools (including our favorite grill spatulas).

Best Overall
OXO Good Grips 16" Grilling Tongs

I knew that I would like the OXO Good Grips 16-Inch Grilling Tongs. The scalloped pincers—a design that aligns the edges all the way around—creates the perfect surface area for gripping a variety of foods and textures.

These flip heavy, saucy chicken with ease and are able to grip even the tiniest sprig of asparagus. OXO’s signature non-slip grip makes the handle extremely comfortable, and the tongs have the perfect amount of springiness and tension.

Between the comfort-forward design, the versatility, and the grip, this set is definitely our favorite. They really do feel like an extension of your arm as you use them, and the price is definitely right on this model, too. All of these things come together to earn the OXO our top spot as Best Overall.

Pros

  • Scalloped pincers provide precision and muscle

  • Comfortable handles

  • Versatile

Cons

  • None that we could find

Best Value
Weber 6610 Original Tongs

The Weber 6610 Original Tongs are by far the most heavy-duty design we found, and yet they don't feel too hefty or tire out hands. The well thought-out design features a long, textured handle as well as a functional storage ring.

While the large pincers are slightly better suited for larger foods than precision detail, they are able to flip the smaller items like asparagus spears. In the end, it's their lightweight springiness and comfortable feel that vaults these tongs up in the ranks. They’re also dishwasher safe which allows for easy, quick cleaning after use.

Pros

  • Long textured handles

  • Properly springy

  • Functional storage ring

Cons

  • Pincers on the large side

Product image of Rösle 40 cm Locking Tongs
Rösle 40 cm Locking Tongs

The Rösle Stainless Steel 16-Inch Locking Barbeque Grill Tongs are the most expensive pair of grill tongs we picked, but they're also the sleekest looking. Not only that, but they feature a unique, gravity-fed locking mechanism.

Point the pincers down and give them a light squeeze to unlock the set using one hand. Guess what happens when you hold ‘em pincers up: they lock! I can’t say the feature is enough to vault this set into the winning circle, but their heavy-duty, stainless-steel construction handles bulky foods and the pincers align perfectly for smaller items. I would have no problem using these steel tongs on the regular in my backyard.

Pros

  • Sleek design

  • Unique one-handed locking mechanism

  • Well aligned pincers

Cons

  • None that we could find

Product image of Edlund 16" Heavy Duty Tongs with Lock
Edlund 16" Heavy Duty Tongs with Lock

I’ve long been a fan of Edlund Company kitchen tongs for a while, though I’ve never used their tongs that are 16 inches long.

These aren't at the top of our list because the storage ring isn’t large enough to hang on the grill, but the super-springy tongs have our favorite scalloped pincers of the tongs we found. They come fully together all the way around, creating a perfect grip on any sized food. They definitely don’t look fancy, but we’d happily own a pair of these tongs for our grill.

Pros

  • Well aligned scalloped pincers

  • Properly springy

Cons

  • Small storage ring

Product image of Mountain Grillers BBQ Kitchen Tongs Set
Mountain Grillers BBQ Kitchen Tongs Set

The long, skinny Mountain Griller Cooking Tongs for Kitchen Grill & BBQ were well suited for almost any task. While they are a touch on the light side, and may struggle to pick up a heavy chicken, we love the way they handle lighter foods. We love the textured, non-slip, and comfortable grips, and these are one of the best bbq tongs when it comes to value, considering it comes with a second pair of 12-inch tongs!

Pros

  • Two pair set

  • Comfortable no-slip handles

Cons

  • Somewhat struggle with heavy items

Product image of Winco UT-16HT 16" Stainless Steel Utility Tongs, Extra Heavyweight
Winco UT-16HT 16" Stainless Steel Utility Tongs, Extra Heavyweight

We like the performance of the Winco UT-16HT 16-Inch Coiled Spring Extra Heavyweight Stainless Steel Utility Tong and we love their scalloped pincers. But, they have one major flaw against them. Not only do they lack a locking mechanism (the only ones we found without one), but they also don’t have any loop or ring for easy storage. That might seem like an aesthetic feature, but it's enough to knock this pair down in the ranks.

Pros

  • Scalloped pincers

  • Long and sturdy

Cons

  • No locking mechanism

  • No hook or ring for hanging storage

Product image of Cuisipro 16" Locking Tongs
Cuisipro 16" Locking Tongs

We don't mind an extra long-handled and skinny design when it comes to good grill tongs, but we worry about super lightweight models like the Cuisipro 16-Inch Stainless Steel Locking Tongs. They don't feel substantial and they lack the same control of other tongs, making it difficult to flip heavy items. Since the pincers don't align perfectly, this set also struggles to flip thin food items.

Pros

  • Long and lightweight

Cons

  • Lacking in control

  • Pincers aren't well aligned

Product image of GrillHogs 16" Tongs
GrillHogs 16" Tongs

The Grillhogs Luxury 16-Inch Barbecue Grill Tongs are the least versatile of all the tongs we found, although they’re fairly easy to clean. They can handle larger items just fine but struggle with more precision-based activity. This might be because the pincers don't align well and have a large gap between the scalloped edges, or it could be because the springs are loaded extremely tightly, making them uncomfortable to use.

Pros

  • Handle large and heavy items well

Cons

  • Pincers aren't well aligned

  • Uncomfortable

  • Inept for precision work

Product image of Y Yellowstone BBQ Tool Set
Y Yellowstone BBQ Tool Set

A great set of grill tongs makes cooking for the entire crew a lot more enjoyable. For anyone who is a fan of Yellowstone, this two-piece, high-quality set of tongs with the show's logo is a solid gift. The tongs are 18 inches long, include a wide surface and beveled tip for easy flipping, and a comfortable, wooden handle. They're easy to use and store, include a secure locking mechanism, and a ring to hang them on the side of your grill when not in use.

Only the rivets are made of stainless steel, meaning these tongs could potentially rust overtime. Overall, reviewers love the quality of these tongs. reviewers love the quality of these tongs.

Pros

  • High-quality set

  • Hanging ring included

  • Easy to use and store

Cons

  • Only the rivets are stainless steel
